I was born in Birmingham in 1971, and I
have been writing since 1989 when I started running science fiction fan clubs
and publishing fanzines through the non-profit making organisation, Infinite
Frontiers, which I founded in August 1989. We specialised in science fiction
and ran a number of clubs, although the organisation diversified into areas
such as computing, sport, and many other areas, as is currently reflected by
it's extensive website.
My role within Infinite Frontiers is as the team's
coordinator, lead writer, website design and maintenance, occasional artist and
designer, photographer, and publicist. Over the
years, the work with Infinite Frontiers expanded into computer magazines and
shareware software which directly lead to my first major commercial writing
break in 1994...
This break came about following the reputation I had made
for myself with the software I had been involved with, and it lead to a one-off
commentary article for a computer magazine. I quickly became one of their
regular freelance team. At the same time, I started working on the Official
Star Trek Fan Club Of The UK writing a series of regular columns before the
club's untimely demise.
Since then, I progressed onto working on a range of
magazines on a freelance basis, as well as continuing my activities in the
amateur field working on a range of fan publications, and several websites, the
main one of these being for Infinite Frontiers where I am the designer, HTML
programmer, and lead writer.
Most of my work over the last couple of years has been
focused on working with the website, but this has allowed me to explore new
avenues of working that I would not have had the opportunity to do in any other
way. It has allowed me to diversify my skills to the point where I now feel
that I can write across a range of fields with a reasonable degree of
competence.
Away from writing, I am an avid science fiction fan, and I
am interested in computing/gaming, web design, music, wildlife, wrestling,
basketball, cooking and a range of other interests. Mainly though, I enjoy
spending as much time as possible with my girlfriend Heather.
