Staff Wanted!
Updated: 13th October 2004
In order to help develop the web site further and to improve the site for everyone, we are looking at bringing some new people into our team. We can't pay anyone for their work on the site at the moment (we do this site for fun, not profit) but over time, as we get onto mailing lists of different companies and receive products to review, we will distribute these to our regular team members and helpers.
If you can help in any of the areas listed, just click on the contact us button at the foot of the page to send us an email and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. At the moment, the most important position for us because of the current success of the site is for fundraising (see the details below), but we would be grateful for any assistance you might be able to give us.
Please keep coming back to this part of the site if you are interested in helping out as we will be adding new jobs on a regular basis and looking for more helpers. We have indicated the more urgent roles that we need filling to help us with the site, although all help is much appreciated. At the moment, we are looking for help in the following areas, but if there is anything you can think of where you could help, please get in touch
Fundraiser
![]()
Possibly the most critical of all the positions on the site at the moment, we are looking for a number of people to help us with raising money to keep this website active. To fund the bandwidth we need so we can keep all our downloads online and meet the needs of the site visitors, we are going to need to raise a considerable sum of money. Your role will be to look at ways we can generate income, help with affiliate deals, advertising, fundraising exercises and much more. We cannot emphasise enough just how important this is to the future survival of the website.
Artists
You can't have failed to see the artwork and animations on this site but we're not satisfied and we want more!! We are interested in hand drawn or CGI work whether they are stills, animations, or full-length videos. If you can only send work to us on paper, don't worry as we can scan things in and we'll return all originals submitted. As well as original one-off pieces to put into our galleries, we are also looking for art and illustrations to accompany many of the features and articles on the site.
Compatibility Testers
Working in conjunction with our website testers, we are also looking for people who can specifically test the site to work on a variety of web browsers and platforms. At the moment, the site is tested regularly in-house on a PC running Internet Explorer 6.0 and AOL 7.0, but we know that there are people viewing the site with other browsers and even other platforms including the Mac and the Amiga. If you have any other browsers and could spare an hour or so a month to check on the site, please get in touch.
Event Support
We'll be running a number of SF events over the next few years including the possible return of meetings for our Star Trek club, Alpha Quadrant and our Transformers events, Auto Assembly. Here we are looking for people who can help out, either in the run-up to each of these events, or during the day itself, helping us to make sure each event runs smoothly.
Image Capture
For some of the reviews on the site, we are unable to get screenshots from the relevant press sites or they are for products that were released several years ago. What we are looking for is someone local to the West Midlands area who can spare an evening a month and who has a domestic DVD recorder. What we want to do is to use a blank DVD-R and record game footage from the Playstation 2 and other consoles onto DVD, which we can then capture stills from on the PC. Once we get the stills we need, we can erase the disc ready for the next session.
Publicity
We are also in need of people to help promote and publicise the site. This role will vary from submitting the site to various search engines, working with us to prepare press releases for print and online publications, and generally improving the public awareness of the site, which will lead to more hits and hopefully an increase in revenue for the site.
Musicians
![]()
We are also in need of more music for use on the site. We are interested in a combination of MIDI files (for use with software) and MP3s for people to download and listen to from our new Music section, or for us to be able to embed into some of our forthcoming videos and games. If you have anything you'd like to share, please get in touch.
Photographers
Taken any photos at any events you've been to? Are you any good at taking photos of objects for reviews? If so, we'd like to hear from you to help us brighten up the site a bit!!
Programmers
![]()
We are now looking for people who can help us in developing new software for the website. At the moment, we are looking for talented Amiga and PC programmers who can help us to convert titles between platforms and develop in-house tools that we can use to create more great downloads to give away, as well as working on original projects to distribute online either freely or as shareware.
Researchers
There will be a number of occasions over time where we will need people who can support our writers by helping out researching information. This could range from finding out information about films or games, to watching episodes of TV shows to find out information that we need to make our articles and features as accurate as possible.
Link Researchers
![]()
We also need a couple of people to get involved now and help us scour the internet finding all of the sites that link to any of our sites (including our now-defunct old website) and ensure that the proper links are used to our site and that broken links are removed. Full training can be given for this job.
Reviewers
We will be looking for more people to join our team to expand our review coverage in terms of gaming, DVDs and SF/Fantasy merchandise including books etc. We are starting to get ourselves onto a number of mailing lists to receive items and what we are looking at is making these available to regular contributors. If you want to get involved, we would need to receive other contributions from you as well as the items you get free, but this is a small concession to get plenty of freebies!
Site Testers
![]()
We are looking for people who can spare time to spend looking at all aspects of this web site and notifying us of errors, broken links, faults, bugs with pages and downloads, and any spelling errors. All we ask is that you visit the site on a regular basis and email us with details of anything you find.
Site Analysis
![]()
We are considering adding an index to the site listing all of the features. At the moment we are not too sure about the format for this but it may take the form of a printed index in PDF format. What we need is for one or two people to study the site in detail listing all of the site's contents with brief descriptions, with details of how you can find each item. It's not a small task, but could be a major part in making the site usable. This is best suited to someone with a broadband connection as it will involve viewing and studying the entire site at length.
Typists
Occasionally, we'll be sent articles etc. on paper that need to be re-typed. We're looking for people who can help out. It doesn't matter what system you are using as long as it has a keyboard and you can save the files out and email them to us!! We also have some larger pieces of fiction that can't be scanned because of the condition of the paper, so we could do with someone to help type these too!
Writers
![]()
We are looking for all sorts of written content - articles, reviews, interviews, fiction pretty much anything you want to send us on any subject!! As long as it fits in with the overall theme of the site, we can make use of it and if it doesn't we are sure we can still find somewhere to use it!!
