GUEST OF HONOUR - NEIL KAPLAN (Optimus Prime, Robots In Disguise)
Held in aid of Acorns Trust and the NSPCC
Updated: 29th June 2005
Well, it's finally over! We want to thank everyone who came along at the weekend for all of your support - you helped us achieve our dream of making Auto Assembly 2005 the biggest Transformers event ever in Europe with a staggering 409 attendees beating the previous record of 400 set by Transforce back in 2002!! We've also like to thank our guest of honour, Neil Kaplan who was a superb entertainer all day (and an absolute scream on the Sunday and Monday!), and to all our other guests - Simon Furman, Andrew Wildman, Geoff Senior, Simon Williams and Jason Cardy.
It wouldn't be a convention without dealers and we can't ignore all of them who turned out in force this year and gave us a great mix of merchandise to drain everyone's bank accounts - I know I spent far too much in a very short space of time ranging from comics to fanzines, Robot Masters, Energon, RiD, Beast Machines, original art (especially the auction!), and BotCon toys! Then there was the auction and raffle and I want to thank the generosity of everyone who not only donated items (especially Neil for bringing over some great signed RiD scripts), but to everyone who was bidding - we haven't done a full count yet, but we know we have managed to raise over £1,000 for our two charities!!
We'll be uploading some photos and videos from the convention over time and we'd love to see anything you have take. We''ll be running a competition so please send your stuff in - by email or if it's a large amount such as digital video - on CD or DVD. The best we receive will be used online and the winner will receive a pair of RiD DVD box sets! We'd also love to hear your comments on the day or any suggestions you may have on how we can improve things so please get in touch again. Just email us here (you can email photos here too!).
Well, we hope you enjoyed the day and we'll be updating this page soon with photos, reports and the all-important raffle and competition results, charity fundraising details and much more so stay tuned! Thanks again everyone for making Auto Assembly 2005 the most memorable Transformers convention ever for me!
Finally, I'd like to extend a personal thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time over the Friday and Saturday to help out with Auto Assembly - setting up, helping out with running the registration desk, filming and much more besides.- we couldn't have done it without you. I know I am probably going to miss out some names here so I must apologise in advance, but special thanks must go to John and Nikitta for their incredible support leading up to AA2005 and looking after Neil; Don and Anne (and without Anne, I'm sure the registration desk would have been a disaster!); Jason (always an invaluable help!) and Richard for stepping in on the registration desk and keeping things going when panic set in!!
