Charity Fundraising - Updated 2nd May 2004
We're going to be running a number of charity fundraising events duringAuto Assembly 2004 in aid of the NSPCC and Cancer Research. The money we raise will be split evenly between the two charities and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to help.
The Charities | Auction | Sketches | Raffle
We are going to be raising
money for two charities during the weekend. The first is the NSPCC. We felt
that it was important for Auto Assembly 2004 to support at least one children's
charity as we are gathering to celebrate what is traditional a product aimed at
children. Also, we are supporting Cancer Research. This is another worthy
cause, and we know that most people will have been touched by this terrible
disease in some way during their lives.
The auction will contain a wide range of items - both donated and being sold by individuals - and we hope to raise as much money as possible for our nominated charities.
There will be a single auction during the weekend, and items on offer will fall into three basic categories. First are the donated items and 100% of the income from these will go to charity. The other two categories cover items from dealers and individuals attending Auto Assembly, and these will be sold with 10% commission going to charity.
Also, to ensure that we raise the maximum amount possible for each item, we will be featuring the "star" items first. This way, we hope that people won't hold back on bidding for the other items saving up for the highlights of the auction.
We've already had a number of items, and these are listed below. Please try to help us raise as much money as we can for our nominated charity. More items will be added to this list shortly. If you have something you'd like to sell through the auction, or if you have something you'd like to donate, please get in touch! For those of you who have taken out the non-attendee option, there are details below the list of how you can take part...
CHARITY ITEMS (100% to charity)
1. Leonard Nimoy Signed Photo
This is arguably the best item in the auction so far - Leonard has very kindly sent us this 8x10 signed black and white photograph for us to auction off. A must have item for any G1 fan or Star Trek fan. Click here to view the picture.
2. Neil Ross Signed Photo
Neil has played a large number of characters in the original series, namely:- Bonecrusher, Crosshairs, Hook, Monzo, Pointblank, Sixshot, Slag and Springer!! Neil has very kindly donated this photo which you can see here.
3. David Kaye Signed Photo
David Kaye - better known to everyone as Megatron from Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Armada, and Energon - has kindly sent us this 8"x10" signed colour photo. It features David surrounded by some of the characters he has voiced on TV including, naturally, Megatron. Click here to view the full size photo.
4. "The Agenda" Beast Wars Signed Script
Bob Forward, Story Editor and writer on Beast Wars, has kindly sent us this script of the three-part story, "The Agenda" for the auction which he has autographed. This is a must for ANY Beast Wars fan. Click here for a pic!
5. "Depth Charge" MISB Figure, Signed by David Sobolov
David Sobolov, the actor who voices Depth Charge in Beast Wars has very kindly sent us this MISB Depth Charge toy that he has autographed for the auction. A superb toy in it's own right, but this is something that any Beast Wars fan would want as part of their collection! Click here to see the toy.
6. McDonalds Armada Promotional Banner
This is physically the largest item in the auction. This is a VERY rare promotional forecourt banner from McDonalds from their 2003 Armada Happy Meals promotion. These banners were produced exclusively for use in the drive-through restaurants, and as such the production run of this was limited to a couple of hundred worldwide. McDonald's don't usually release promotional items like this to the public and it is very likely that the only time you will see one of these available again is if this particular banner is re-auctioned or sold on.
It is a massive 14 feet long by 3 feet high, and we couldn't manage to fit all of it on the photo that you can see here - we had to fold it in half for this! It is made of very durable polythene designed to withstand all weather conditions. The other half of the banner is taken up with images relating to the other part of the meal promotion - Hamtaro!
7. Transformers computer game - Commodore 64
This is one of two G1 games released for the Commodore 64 in the 80s, and this one is released by Ocean Software, now a part of Atari. The game is in reasonably good condition although there is some box wear. However it has been tested and works perfectly! To see this game, click here.
8. Metallic Shockwave Hard Hero Bust - Artists Proof
Limited to 50 worldwide, this is a test version of the limited edition run of the new bust in the Hard Hero range, donated by Infinity & Beyond.
9. The Cybertronian Times Issue 6 Cover Art
This is the original cover art to Issue 6 of The Cybertronian Times by Lee Sullivan - Lee's first ever piece of RiD artwork!

We're just waiting for this one to arrive, but Mike (the voice of Cosmos and Tracks from G1 and Ironhide and Hot Shot from RiD) has sent us this signed photo for the auction.

Fan Items (10% to charity)
NON-ATTENDEE PARTICIPATION
If you are unable to attend Auto Assembly this year, but still want to bid on these or some of the other items that we will be adding to the aution on the day, there are several ways you can take part and help with our charity fundraising activities.
In every case, you need to have the non-attendee pack, and you can get this by going to the main index page of this site and going to the Auto Assembly shop. It only takes a few minutes to buy this pack and it will get you the full convention pack including all the free gifts, the convention magazine and more!
Following this, please email us to arrange your involvement in the auction. There are two steps to follow then. First, you can email us with a list of the items you are interested in, with your maximum bid for each and we will bid on the day on your behalf and we will then contact you afterwards notifying you of your successful bids.
Alternatively, we will be conducting the auction online LIVE via MSN Messenger so if you don't already use it, download it and register before the convention. Make sure you are online at around 3:00 pm GMT on Saturday 8th May and email us with your user ID and we will invite you into a private chat with other bidders prior to the auction starting at 3:30 pm. We will feed descriptions of the items into the chat, update you on current bid status, and pass on your current bids into the active auction in the hall itself. Bids will NOT close in the convention hall until all bidders in the MSN chat have declined to bid further on particular items.
We are expecting items to be added on the morning of the convention itself, so this is the best way to get access to all of the items on offer and to feel that you are really a part of being there. We will keep tabs of winning bids, and we will notify you of your totals at the end of the auction and we can arange for payment and shipping afterwards along with your convention pack and any convention exclusives or other items you may wish to buy.
Andrew Wildman has very kindly offered to spare some time during the weekend to do some sketches for fans during the convention. He will be doing these in one or two short sessions, the exact times of which will be announced soon or in the programmes in the convention packs. Andrew will be charging £5 each for these, which will be going to the convention charities, but he will only be doing these for a limited amount of time of approximately one hour per day!
We'll be running another raffle with some great prizes with the draw taking place at the end of Sunday's programme of events. Tickets will be on sale all weekend for just 20p each from the registration desk (and you can buy additional tickets NOW if you wish!) and the prizes already include a couple of Takara reissue toys!
