LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES

24th August 2011 - Website Relaunch This Weekend!

We mentioned this a few days ago, but we've started the planning of this now! All being well, phase one of the relaunch of the website should be happening over the next few days and should be completed by the weekend. The site will not only have a completely new look and feel, but a totally different functionality too so a lot of the stuff you are used to on the site won't exist any more, but there will be a lot of new content as well! Some features won't be online straight away but there will be some things that will be brand new from the start but please bear with us as the site may have some teething troubles!

Hopefully the Auto Assembly 2012 Bookings Page will be active as soon as the new site goes live, but if not, we will try to keep the old page active while the changeover happens and we'll put a link to the old page on the new site. We'll announce more as it happens...

22nd August 2011 - Auto Assembly Europe 2011 Confirmed For November 2011

If you can't wait until 2012 for your next Auto Assembly fix then don't worry as you don't have to! We've now confirmed the date, venue and first details for Auto Assembly Europe 2011 and we can proudly announce that our next convention will be taking place on 12th - 13th November 2011 in Uppsala, Sweden! Our first confirmed guest is Simon Furman and you can find out all the details, and book your tickets, at the website here. For a bit more information, see our official announcement video below:-

20th August 2011 - New Website Coming Soon...

As you can see, this website hasn't really changed that much over the last few years apart from some minor cosmetic changes, alterations to the content and general layout but the general underlying code and style of the site has stayed the same all along. We have generally tried to keep things simple which has worked well for us for a long time, and it has allowed us to offer online bookings for the convention for over 5 years but now is time for a change...

We are investigating several options open to us right now for a complete overhaul of the site including moving it to a completely new server and changing all of the content and the look and feel of the site. This won't happen overnight and we have to be 100% certain that we won't lose any functionality in the process - if improving the look and content means that our booking system is affected then it won't happen. We'll keep you posted on developments here, but once the switchover does happen, there will probably be a reduced service for a week or so, with the bookings possibly using the old site while it is moved over to the newer site.

17th August 2011 - Thank You...

Well, Auto Assembly is over for another year! We'd like to thank everyone who came along and made the convention a huge success. Hundreds of you braved the reports of danger in and around Birmingham and despite the country still in a state of economic downturn we still managed an impressive turnout of 577 attendees, just two short of last year's European record!! Pretty astonishing considering recent events and the fact that many of our regulars weren't able to join us this year for financial reasons.

Anyway, we're glad so many of you enjoyed the weekend and helped to make it such a wonderful time and we'll be updating the site with photos, videos and more and keep coming back for exciting news about Auto Assembly 2012...

13th August 2011 - Auto Assembly 2012 First Two Voice Actors Confirmed

Auto Assembly 2012 is going to be a huge event with at least three guests of honour as we announced at Auto Assembly 2011 and we can confirm that the first two are G1 voice actor Michael Bell and TFA voice actor Townsend Coleman, but who is the third? You'll find out soon enough...!

10th August 2011 - Facebook Support Group

For those of you coming to the convention this weekend, don't forget that we have an active Event Page on Facebook that you can join here. We are leaving to head off to the convention at noon today but we will still be posting updates throughout the day on Facebook and leading right up to the convention and other attendees will post details of travel share plans and general discussions of incidents that they may find out in relation to the convention. To allay any concerns that you may have regarding part of the content of the convention this year, both David Kaye and David Wise are already in the UK and Gregg Berger is leaving the US today to arrive tomorrow morning so all our guests of honour will be in the UK by tomorrow morning!

Just remember guys... "Nothing's going to stand in our way!". We're very close to setting a NEW European attendance record and with YOUR help, we are determinded to do it so if you haven't already booked, there's still time or come along on the day. People are looking at making car share or travel share plans, arrangements to travel to hotels together or in groups for those not staying in the convention hotel so we are making every effort to cover ever eventuality this year.

7th August 2011 - Bookings Close Soon!

You still have time to get your bookings in for the convention if you haven't already! There are plenty of advantages of booking in advance this year. Obviously you will get a personalised pass, but pre-registration will get you early admission to the convention and we are now also offering a special limited early pass collection for fans on the THURSDAY afternoon for those of you who arrive in Birmingham early!! For those of you planning on coming and paying on the door, remember that we do have a MAJOR national flyer campaign running this year as well as an imminent local radio promotion which could generate a surge of on-the-door interest and with many gifts in the goodie bag limited as well, you don't want to miss out on these either! You can book your tickets here.

7th August 2011 - Fans Vs Guest Quiz!

On Sunday morning we will be having a rather special quiz take place on stage based on the TV series "Eggheads"! A team of fans will go up against a team made up of some of our guests - Simon Furman, Simon Williams, Nick Roche, James Roberts and Kris Carter. Do you think you know more about Transformers than our experts?! Find out on Sunday!

7th August 2011 - Fan Sales Table Update

Earlier in the week we suffered a hard drive crash which critically damaged a number of files relating to Auto Assembly 2011. Fortunately many of these were old files which we no longer needed but one of them was our working file for the Auto Assembly 2011 Fan Sales Table. The most recent version we had to hand was the one dated 30th July 2011 that we had on the website but this had been converted to a PDF file so for the last couple of days we have been re-building this file and hunting through all of our old emails to ensure that all the recent reservations and new additions have not been missed out. The fully restored version will be online today and will be open for you to reserve items, and we are still taking your submissions ready to bring them along to the convention and hopefully make plenty of sales! We are expecting to have about 200 items listed prior to the convention and if last year was anything to go by, we could have several hundred over the weekend!

6th August 2011 - Attendee Information Pack Online

If you're coming to Auto Assembly 2011 next weekend, you'll want to know all about the convention - the general rules for the event, how to get there, what to do about collecting your passes, and much much more. We have already emailed this to everyone who has pre-registered but if you have had trouble accessing it, you can now download the pack here.

3rd August 2011 - Jagex To Appear At Auto Assembly 2011!

The upcoming Transformers Universe MMO is on course to be one of the most eagerly awaited Transformers games EVER. The online MMO will be giving players the chance to take charge of a brand new self-created Autobot or Decepticon and play against thousands of other players across the globe! The game is being created by Jagex, the British developers who are responsible for Runescape which is the world's most popular free-to-play MMOG and over 40 other online titles.

Jagex will be at Auto Assembly 2011 and will be taking to the stage for a presentation on the game and for a Q&A Session on the Saturday afternoon which promises to be one of the hits of the convention, where they will be revealing some new information about the game EXCLUSIVELY to Auto Assembly attendees! This is a Panel you do NOT want to miss!

3rd August 2011 - Stephen Baskerville To Attend Auto Assembly 2011!

We can now reveal that we are being joined by our SIXTEENTH guest for Auto Assembly 2011! A late addition to our already stunning line-up is Marvel G1 artist and inker Stephen Baskerville who will be making his Auto Assembly debut this year. He will be taking to the stage as part of our revised comic panel on Saturday afternoon joining Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman to talk about Transformers #81...

1st August 2011 - Celebrate Target 2006 At Auto Assembly 2011!

Marvel UK were renowned for producing some of the best Transformers comics ever written, thanks to the talents of Simon Furman. One of the most notable stories he produced during the comic's incredible 332 issue run was "Target 2006" which was set during Transformers: The Movie and Auto Assembly 2011 is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of this landmark comic on the Friday night of the convention. Usually the Friday night is an informal get-together to get everyone in the relaxed mood for the main convention, with videos and one or two other fun activities. However, this year we are having our first ever Friday night guest panel!

Taking to the stage will be Simon Furman and artist Geoff Senior to talk about their work on Target 2006 in a special discussion hosted by IDW artist/writer Nick Roche who worked on the covers for the IDW re-prints of these monumental books! It will take place on the Friday evening of the convention but, as always, the Friday evening programme is EXCLUSIVELY for those fans who have purchased a weekend pass for the convention! This is going to be a fascinating insight into a remarkable comic book and is something you won't want to miss!

This is part one of a two-part series of announcements with the rest coming later this week...

24th July 2011 - A Thought For Norway

While we may all be looking forward to the convention and a few days of fun and escapism, we want to take this time to send our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Norway in this traumatic time. The attrocities they are having to come to terms with are devastating and put life - and what we do at Auto Assembly - into perspective in the bigger picture of things. Please spare a thought for those who are suffering and those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy.

23rd July 2011 - Fan Sales Table Updated

For those of you interested in our Fan Sales Table, we have now updated the list extensively. We now have over 100 items committed for the table for the weekend being brought along by attendees for sale and items belonging to the convention including BinalTech, G1, Generations, comics, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Armada, Energon, Animated and loads more besides! Many items have already been reserved so if there are any toys you are interested in, you'll need to hurry if you want them put aside for you and if you want to add anything yourselves let us know and we can get your toys listed in advance for others to pre-order. Otherwise just bring them with you on the day. For the full list, click here.

20th July 2011 - New Fanzine Launched - CT Alpha!!

For over a decade, we have been publishing The Cybertronian Times, our official convention magazine to accompany Auto Assembly each year. Since taking the editorial chair in 2010, Andy Turnbull has worked wonders with the magazine and it is now better than it has ever been but h'e not satisfied with producing just one magazine a year...

With that in mind we are putting together a new ongoing fanzine to help tide you over in those months where AA seems just too far away, so later this year we will be launching CT Alpha, an ongoing companion to The Cybertronian Times... and we want YOUR input! We will be holding an open forum / discussion group at Auto Assembly 2011 on the Sunday where we'll talk about the fanzine, give you a preview of what we are doing and getting your feedback and some of your ideas and if anyone is interested in contributing then you can let us know!

We can't say just yet how often it will be released or the price, but it will be fantastic value for money and will be available as a digital fanzine as single issues or on a subscription basis and we're aiming for around 32 pages per issue and the first issue of CT Alpha will be released on 19th September 2011 and will be absolutely free. That's right - FREE!

18th July 2011 - Major Programme Update

Want to know exact what is going on over the weekend at the convention this year? Well we've just uploaded the most comprehensive version of our programme yet to the website! One of the most well-respected of the original Marvel G1 Transformers artists, Geoff Senior, is making a welcome return to Auto Assembly! That's not all though... As well as his Transformers work, many of you will know that Geoff is the co-creator, alongside Simon Furman, of Death's Head who recently made a return to comics in Panini's Marvel Heroes title. 5th July 2011 - Auto Assembly 2011 Competitions Confirmed With Special Judges!

5th July 2011 - Fan Sales Table Returns To Auto Assembly 2011!

A popular part of the convention last year was our Fan Sales Table. We gave you all the chance to bring along your unwanted toys and other Transformers merchandise and have it sold on our special dealers table on your behalf for a small commission to the convention. In the end, we had over 500 items stocked over the weekend, and this year is shaping up to be no exception! It's still early days but we've already got a selection of loose and MISB toys including Beast Wars, Generations, BinalTech and more so why not pop along and grab a bargain! You can see our current list and details on how to add your items here.

One of the highlights from Auto Assembly 2010 was the Panel held by Nick Roche and James Roberts where they took to the stage for over an hour talking about their work on Last Stand Of The Wreckers and their future plans for Transformers. For those of you who are attending this year's convention or who are considering attending, this will give you a great idea what to expect as both are attending once again and with James now working on IDW's ongoing series including books being at the same time of the convention, we're sure he'll have plenty to say.

Anyway, you can watch the entire panel on our Youtube Channel below:-

13th June 2011 - Auto Assembly 2011 Ticket Availability

We have had some people contact us recently worried about tickets selling out for Auto Assembly 2011. Well, we can reassure you and say that we do have tickets left for this year's convention but we want to remind you all that the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre doesn't have an unlimited amount of space. Last year we were VERY close to our upper limit in terms of the number of attendees we could allow into the hotel and if we reach that number again, we may have to close bookings or turn people away so if you haven't already got your tickets for the convention, we'd strongly suggest that you book them now! We're entering our rush period for bookings so we're expecting tickets to start selling very quickly so you don't want to miss out!

12th June 2011 - A Special Announcement

Back again and this time with a new video on our Youtube Channel. We won't say much about this one apart from the fact that it's a rather special message... Just watch and enjoy!

11th June 2011 - Andrew Wildman Returns!

We are pleased to announce that leading Transformers comic artist, Andrew Wildman is making a very welcome return to Auto Assembly! Andrew is our tenth confirmed guest for the convention and will be joining our other comic guests on stage on Saturday for our massive comic panel. He will also be around for the rest of the weekend signing autographs and meeting fans in our guest area.

31st May 2011 - Site Facelift And Update

As you can see, we've started the first phase of a mini-facelift for the website. While it isn't a complete re-coding of the site, we are trying to make it a lot tighter and easier to navigate and more relevant to what we are doing now as an event. We have decided to drop all of the sections that don't relate to the convention itself so the areas covering reviews, articles, fiction etc have now been removed from the site. We've also tidied up the area dedicated to our past events and once this is back online it will be a comprehensive guide to all our previous events from Auto Assembly 2000 right up to Auto Assembly 2010.

This will include reports, photos, videos, interviews with our guests, free downloads and much much more and will be the most comprehensive guide to all of our events online. We've also got a link to our new continental event, Auto Assembly Europe taking place in Sweden later this year and we'll add a dedicated section to the site in the near future for this event as well.

Finally, you can see that there are more adverts at the top of the page. We are increasing the work we do with sponsors for the convention. This helps fund the work we do and allows us to do more each year at the convention and offer more for all of our attendees. As you can see, there are more opportunities for you to get involved as a sponsor (and we have a comprehensive range of sponsorship packages to suit all budgets that covers the convention, website, our Youtube channel and much more besides) so if you are interested, just email us!

24th April 2011 - Latest News Update Video Online With More Guests Announced!

We've been quiet for a while with announcements about Auto Assembly 2011, but as you can see from the flurry of updates on the website we're back in style! We've just uploaded our latest news video to Youtube which has new guest announcements and some great convention updates including new guests which you can see over on our guests page. Anyway, you can watch the video below...

21st April 2011 - Auto Assembly 2010 Cosplay Footage Online!

For those of you who couldn't make it to Auto Assembly 2010 and wanted to know what all the fuss was about with our Cosplay Competition, or if you were able to make it and want to see it all again, we've now put the ENTIRE event up on our Youtube Channel! You can watch the video below and if you go to the channel here you can see more footage from the convention including highlights from the Karaoke and interviews with some of our guests. We'll be uploading more footage soon so keep coming back to the channel!

14th April 2011 - New Mailing Address

At the end of 2010, our PO Box mailing address closed. Most of the correspondence for the convention was being processed via email or alternatively through our home addresses and the amount of usage it was receiving, the expense of maintaining the PO Box wasn't justified although as there was still only a limited amount of mail being received, this was still being forwarded to us. As the PO Box was originally linked to Simon's old address with his parents in Birmingham, this was never a problem, but since moving to Lichfield three years ago this has always lead to delays in processing postal bookings which is why we don't have a postal booking system in place yet for Auto Assembly 2011.

However, Simon and Trish are now in the process of moving house again so re-opening postal bookings could potentially see these getting lost. Hopefully this will be completed before the convention so we will be able to take pre-convention postal bookings and set up a new PO Box (and also move the convention's work into it's own dedicated office!) but more on this in the coming weeks / months...

10th April 2011 - We're Back!

We haven't been doing much work on the website for some time but as they say, WE'RE BACK!! We have been doing alot of work behind the scenes on the convention, but things going on in Simon's personal life have meant that he has had to give these priority over some aspects of the convention. It has meant that the website hasn't been updated for a while and that a backlog of booking confirmation emails has built up along with delays in sending out the Non-Attendee Packs from 2010. We're now getting back into the full swing of things and confirmation emails are flying out and we have some really exciting news coming soon about Auto Assembly 2011, Auto Assembly 2012 and much more besides.
